Zinc Phosphate

Zinc Phosphate

Zinc phosphate coatings are a crystalline conversion coating for steel and other metals that is formed on a ferrous metal substrate. The process of Zinc phosphate coating is employed for the purpose of pretreatment prior to coating or painting, increasing corrosion protection and improving friction properties of sliding components. In other instances, phosphate coatings are applied to threaded parts and top coated with oil to add anti-galling and rust inhibiting characteristics

The zinc phosphate coating acts as a binder for lubricants, oils, rust preventative waxes or paints.

Zinc Phosphates hold top coat layers of oil, lubricants and anti-corrosion waxes in extreme and hostile environments. When these additional coatings are applied over the phosphate layer, good levels of corrosion protection and low friction surfaces are achieved.

Key Properties of Zinc Phosphating

  • Corrosion resistance – when additional topcoats are applied
  • Uniform & smooth
  • Thin film deposit
  • Key For painting
  • Improved low friction properties

Capabilities / Capacity

We have a 350Kg lifting capacity. Lengths up to 1.6 metres. Can apply thin film oil if required.

Further Technical information

The chemical processes involved in the Phosphating process are quite complex but in brief terms the phosphating process converts the surface layer of certain metals into strong, adherent, insoluble metal phosphates. These can either be crystalline or amorphous in structure. Phosphating forms both a rust resisting layer in itself and also gives an excellent key to subsequent paint coating. If scratched, the underlying metal surface does not corrode as rapidly as it would without the phosphate layer. The process temperatures involved are up to 80 C.
